Irvine Royal Academy's Technical Education department offers three subjects that are assessed by the SQA. These are:

Practical Woodworking


The department is well resourced, allowing pupils to achieve their potential in the subjects.

We teach Woodworking to National 5 level, Design & Manufacture to Higher level and Graphic Communication to Advanced Higher level.

Irvine Incorporated Trades


The Technical Department has close links with Irvine Incorporated Trades. Representatives from the Trades visit the school each June and select prizewinners from the pupil work displayed in our Annual Exhibition.

Visit to Printworks


The Graphic Communication Advanced Higher and Higher pupils visited Bell & Bain printworks in Glasgow to see first-hand the printing, pre-press and post-press production cycle.

STEM visit to Dumfries House


A group of pupils visited Dumfries House's Engineering Centre where they took part in a series of workshops aimed at encouraging pupils to consider careers in engineering. On the day, they were delighted to have a visit from HRH Prince Charles, the Duke of Rothesay.
